Dear Mom,
Today’s your day, so this one’s for you, because I’m so thankful for all you do.
First of all, thanks for making the other 364 days in the year about your family.
Thanks for all those times you’d let me climb in your bed and stick my freezing feet and hands on you when I was a kid. In hindsight I can see that I was getting the better end of the deal on that one.
That brings me to all those sleepovers, when we’d lay in bed and read all night, when dad was out of town. You’d let me leave the lamp on and keep reading all night, even if you had to get up early in the morning. Those are some of my favorite memories with you, so thank you momma.
Remember that one time, when I was little, and I decided to flood the upstairs bathroom and cover the floor with soapy water so I could skate? Honestly, I knew it was a bad idea, but it was fun (until I got caught). So, I’m not sure if I ever said it, but thanks for not getting too mad at me, even though I probably could’ve turned the floor to mush and fallen through the ceiling.
Thanks for loving me through (and telling me I was beautiful during) my awkward, dweeby, pre-teen years. You know the ones… when I had glasses, frizzy hair, braces and an overbite longer than a football field. You still insist I was cute back then, but we’ll have to agree to disagree.
This one’s more of an apology: I’m sorry for how horribly I treated you at 13. If something went wrong, I blamed you. I’m not sure how any person could take that, but you somehow did, and you still loved me through it. Thanks for never giving up on your hormonal, dramatic, 13-year-old daughter.
Tryouts. Where do I begin? It didn’t matter what I was trying out for; dance, choir, musicals, anything... You were my prayer warrior and the ultimate gift giver. You always hid little surprises in my bag or had something for me to wake up to on tryout days, and you always had an army praying. I can’t thank you enough for being my number one fan.
Thank you for loving One Direction for me. You embraced the band with me (maybe because I gave you no other option), and you always did (and still do) a great job of at least pretending like you’re interested when I talk about them.
“The more you cry, the less you pee.” “If you need to blow your nose, get snot on my shirt-I don’t mind.” Two sentences you said quite often when I’d come home crying after a tough day. Thanks for letting me cry until I thought I was a dried up sponge and making me laugh when my heart was heavy.
Thank you for having patience with my horrible cooking skills and always acting like you love what I’ve made (we both know I’m not just talking about my childhood anymore either). No matter how many times I burn things, you always tell me I did great and ask for the recipe.
I’m not a planner, we both know this. You are a planner, again, we both know this. So thanks for always being willing to drop anything for my last-minute, unplanned phone calls knowing they will probably last an hour.
The food!!! Thanks for always making me food that I can take back to college with me, because you know I’m hopeless and can barely make pasta.
These aren’t even half the things I could thank you for, sweet momma, but I can’t write forever. Just know I’m so thankful for all that you do for me!
Happy Mothers Day, I love you!!
